This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Collaborate with brokers and carriers for employee health insurance to assess new cases.
• Ensure prompt approval and processing of applications.
• Analyze enrollment documents and comprehensive medical records to make underwriting decisions.
• Register new groups and members within carriers' online platforms.
• Examine final rates, benefit selections, and underwriting criteria.
• Reach out to agents/brokers for additional information following case evaluations.
• Produce quotes based on actual enrollments to guarantee accurate premium submissions to the carrier.
• Inform agents/brokers regarding overdue premium payments and case updates.
• Uphold the company's confidentiality standards.
• Handle broker of record change requests and agent licensing.
• Address inquiries from brokers.
• Stay informed on medical terms/conditions and insurance products.
• Complete other assigned tasks.
• Fluency in the English language is essential.
• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• At least one (1) year of experience in underwriting or related group health insurance roles.
• Familiarity with medical terms/conditions and insurance products is necessary.
• Basic understanding of underwriting principles is needed.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook Exchange.
• Skilled in using Internet Explorer.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret underwriting procedures, requirements, regulations, and contracts.
• Capable of negotiating with agents and brokers.
• Commitment to maintaining complete confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Ability to identify when issues should be escalated.
• Contribute positively to a team environment.
• Capable of completing tasks on time while managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
• Willingness to work occasional long and irregular hours.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, frequently communicate verbally and audibly, and occasionally stand, walk, bend, crawl, kneel, and lift up to 25 lbs.
