This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
β’ Design and create aircraft modules, structural assemblies, and components.
β’ Develop design solutions that fulfill performance, manufacturability, weight, quality, and cost goals.
β’ Create layouts and assemblies for both composite and aluminum aircraft structures.
β’ Assist in airframe integration and subsystem packaging efforts.
β’ Work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams from the concept phase through to production.
β’ Assess design concepts and suggest enhancements.
β’ Generate 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings utilizing SolidWorks.
β’ Produce and issue production-ready engineering documentation.
β’ Oversee design revisions and engineering change processes.
β’ Maintain CAD and engineering data in accordance with company, customer, and aerospace standards.
β’ Create Bills of Materials and aid in configuration management.
β’ Develop manufacturing drawings following ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
β’ Specify critical dimensions, tolerances, and inspection criteria.
β’ Assist Manufacturing and Quality teams with engineering specifications.
β’ Evaluate designs and drawings to ensure compliance with aerospace standards and customer specifications.
β’ Lead and engage in DFMEA activities.
β’ Identify design risks and implement strategies for mitigation.
β’ Assist in verification, qualification, and validation testing.
β’ Conduct root cause analyses and initiate corrective design measures.
β’ Address product performance and reliability concerns in collaboration with Manufacturing and Quality teams.
β’ Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to promote efficient production.
β’ Facilitate prototype builds, testing, and production scaling.
β’ Assess components produced by suppliers and resolve design-related challenges.
β’ Champion continuous improvement in design quality, product performance, and manufacturability.
β’ Support the implementation of engineering changes and ongoing product development.
β’ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a relevant engineering field.
β’ A combination of education and substantial aerospace design experience may be considered.
β’ Over 8 years of experience in aerospace structural design, product development, or aircraft engineering.
β’ Advanced skills in SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assembly creation, and drawing development.
β’ Strong knowledge of GD&T and aerospace engineering drawing practices.
β’ Experience in conducting and leading DFMEA activities.
β’ Practical experience in designing composite and aluminum aircraft structures.
β’ Solid understanding of structural design principles, mechanical systems, and manufacturability needs.
β’ Experience in supporting prototype development, testing, and production launch activities.
β’ Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
β’ Capability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
β’ Experience with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), UAVs, or autonomous aircraft initiatives.
β’ Familiarity with Airbus engineering protocols, standards, and documentation needs.
β’ Knowledge of composite fabrication methods and aerospace assembly techniques.
β’ Background in lightweight aircraft structure design and optimization.
β’ Experience in supporting aerospace certification, testing, and structural validation processes.
β’ Understanding of aerospace configuration management and change control practices.
β’ Knowledge of stress analysis principles and structural design specifications.
β’ Experience in fast-paced aerospace product development settings.
β’ Experience in supporting prototype, low-rate production, or sustainment efforts.
