Military and Family Life Counselor – Short Term Assignments

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Provide coverage during short-term, surge, and on-demand situations for military-related requirements.

• Offer non-medical counseling services for adults or children and youth behavioral (CYB) to military service members and their families.

• Conduct assessments, brief counseling, consultations, action planning, referrals, resource linkage, and follow-up services.

• Deliver training sessions and health and wellness presentations.

• Collaborate with parents, child daycare centers, schools, youth programs, and installation command on behavioral health matters.

• Support Child Development Centers (CDCs), Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) and community schools, youth programs, summer camps, military community and readiness centers, as well as on-demand assignments.

• Work closely with installation and military branch Points of Contact to ensure that services remain within scope and address installation needs.

• Participate in health fairs and other activities on the base or installation.

• Record counselor activity data daily using a smartphone or web application while upholding confidentiality and anonymity.

• Create a confidential and approachable presence on installations and in child and youth environments.

• Build and maintain relationships with community resources and facilitate appropriate linkages.

• Manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations in accordance with DoD protocol.

• Communicate with Regional Supervisors and engage in both individual and group supervision.

• Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the Point of Contact and authorized by the OSD program manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health-related field or social work.

• Current licensure required for this position meeting State, Commonwealth, or customer-specific standards.

• Must possess independent licensure as a behavioral health clinician.

• Valid in-state driver license is a must.

• Ability to demonstrate US Citizenship.

• Proficiency in English is required.

• Clinical work experience is necessary.

• Advanced knowledge of brief therapy and solution-focused counseling techniques.

• For CYB roles, must satisfy Magellan MFLC CYB criteria concerning experience with children and youth, as well as specialization in child and adolescent development/psychology.

• Prior military service or being a military family member and/or a strong understanding of military culture is preferred.

• Willingness to accept assignments of undefined durations, including weekends, with short notice.

• Capable of covering full-time assignments ranging from a weekend to two weeks.

• Adaptability to new working conditions and varying location regulations.

• Ability to work effectively with minimal instruction and guidance.

• Willingness to participate in in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees, or other contract activities on short notice.

• Capable of responding swiftly to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation and/or within a school setting.

• May require current immunizations or vaccinations and proof of receipt for certain assignments.

• Must adhere to site-specific military installation or worksite requirements.
