Military and Family Life Counselor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kentucky, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Deliver a comprehensive range of Child and Youth Behavioral counseling services to children of military personnel and their families.

• Offer non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling at designated primary and secondary locations.

• Perform assessments, brief counseling sessions, consultations, action planning, referrals, resource linkage, and follow-up.

• Consult with parents, military staff, schools, and installation command on behavioral health concerns.

• Assist DoDEA and community school staff, youth programs, and summer camps.

• Provide training and guidance for parents.

• Conduct training sessions and health and wellness presentations.

• Participate in health fairs and other installation events aimed at children and youth.

• Record counselor activity data daily through a smartphone or web application while upholding confidentiality and anonymity.

• Build relationships with community resources and facilitate appropriate connections.

• Maintain a visible presence within schools and adhere to line-of-sight protocols.

• Collaborate with installation/facility Points of Contact to provide CYB services.

• Handle duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations in accordance with DoD protocols.

• Communicate with Regional Supervisors and engage in both individual and group supervision.

• Address critical incidents and respond to special requests.

• Adjust schedule for urgent requests as necessary.

• Take part in in-services, training, Quality Improvement committees, initiatives, studies, pilot programs, and other contractual activities.

• Complete documentation of activities and utilize relevant technology for required tasks.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must possess an independent license in any state, such as LPC, LCSW, or LMFT.

• Hold a Master’s Degree from an accredited Graduate Program in a Mental Health-related field.

• Have a valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory, or Commonwealth.

• Less than 2 years of post-licensure clinical experience is required.

• Intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Suite, internet navigation, smartphone/tablet application navigation, and video conferencing platforms.

• Capability to engage with military members or children and respond swiftly to emergency situations in physical locations on military installations and/or within school environments.

• Ability to navigate short and/or long distances, including rugged outdoor terrains, stairs, grass, and steep inclines.

• May require current immunizations or vaccinations for specific assignments.

• Must demonstrate US Citizenship and fluency in English.

• Possess an understanding, sensitivity, and empathy towards service members and their families.

• Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships and work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.

• Must pass NACI Clearance, Installation Records Check, Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprints Check.

• Hold a valid U.S. state vehicle operator’s license, unless waived by the FEDSIM COR.

• May need to acquire a U.S. military vehicle operator’s permit for commercial sedans and similar vehicles.

• Meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth, as well as expertise in child and adolescent development/psychology.

• School-assigned counselors should have prior experience in a school setting.

• Current licensure must fulfill State, Commonwealth, or customer-specific requirements.

• Must be an independently licensed behavioral health clinician.
