This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

đź“‹ Description

• Participate in three annual meetings, which include one half-day virtual meeting, two full-day in-person meetings, and a full-day retreat in Washington, DC.

• Join the organization's annual Summit for Religious Freedom, coinciding with the Board's first in-person meeting of the year.

• Contribute to at least one standing committee that convenes virtually a minimum of three times each year.

• Communicate with staff and Board officers in a timely and professional manner, typically within 72 hours.

• Remain updated on the organization’s activities, challenges, and opportunities through organizational updates and active participation in Board and committee meetings and discussions.

• Offer financial contributions to AU through a personally significant donation and/or engage in fundraising efforts for the organization.


⛳️ Requirements

• Capacity to provide essential financial oversight to maintain the organization’s financial health.

• Extensive investing knowledge, including developing investment policy statements, asset allocation, and formulating/monitoring investment strategies.

• Ability to recognize financial risks and contribute to financial planning processes.

• Experience in reviewing and overseeing annual budgets and nonprofit financial statements to ensure sustainable operations.

• Commitment and capability to act as an effective fundraiser for the organization.

• Proven experience in making or securing six-figure donations for nonprofit organizations, or the willingness and capability to do so.

• Openness to collaborate with staff to foster a culture of philanthropy across the Board, ensuring every trustee understands their role in supporting the organization’s fundraising initiatives.

• Significant litigation and/or appellate experience, with a readiness to use these skills to assist AU’s litigation team and support the organization’s legal strategies.

• Thorough understanding of the relationship between litigation and other advocacy strategies, such as policy work, communications, and organizational efforts.

• Expertise in issues related to AU’s litigation, including employment law, free speech, and various civil rights issues.

• Ability to connect AU with pro bono legal support.

• Demonstrated capability and willingness to build connections with policymakers, media outlets, and individuals to enhance AU's effectiveness, brand, and visibility.
