Medical Interpreter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Delivers foreign language interpreting services to facilitate understanding and effective communication between individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) and staff.

• Assists clinic personnel by promoting cross-cultural communication for non-English speaking patients across all age groups.

• Ensures accurate interpretation between L.E.P. patients and hospital staff.

• Educates individuals and staff on culturally specific values, beliefs, and practices pertinent to the interaction.

• Serves as a channel of information for all clinical services, including medical terminology and support services for LEP patients.

• Informs L.E.P. patients about the interpreter’s responsibilities and the scope of their role.

• Acts as a cultural mediator to improve communication between patients/families and medical staff.

• Clarifies hospital resources, office procedures, and limitations to both clinicians and patients, and provides appropriate referrals.

• Cultivates relationships with L.E.P. community focus groups, addressing the needs of the community.

• Provides verbatim interpretation to maintain the integrity of the medical record while conveying the meaning of the message in the target language.

• Demonstrates effective listening skills and remains receptive to diverse viewpoints.

• Accurately conveys the speaker's intent, tone, style, and language proficiency.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED

• 1 year of experience in human or health services

• Ability to uphold interpreter standards of practice and a code of ethics.

• Capacity to consistently perform the same tasks for extended durations.

• Proficiency in interpreting and translating on a daily basis, even in potentially stressful circumstances.

• Excellent listening abilities.

• Familiarity with medical terminology and/or specialized vocabulary.

• Comprehension of the subject matter to effectively translate from source language to target language.
