• The Medical Editor is tasked with providing a variety of editorial services, including overseeing the editorial work for their designated accounts.
• Each project requires copy editing for accurate spelling, grammar, consistency, balance, tone, adherence to the creative brief, correct client and AMA style, and precise referencing.
• Conduct fact-checking and thorough reads, which include unbranded claims, essential promotional materials, and data-related assertions.
• Assess client and medical/legal/regulatory (MLR) modifications within the context of the overall piece; edit accordingly.
• May take charge of preparing MLR submissions (tagging and linking within the client’s submission system).
• Assume lead editing duties on one or more accounts.
• Represent the department in internal kickoff and status meetings.
• Exhibit expertise in and adherence to the Editorial review process and established best practices.
• Ensure all materials comply with each client’s specific MLR submission processes and best practices.
• Collaborate effectively with assigned account teams to recognize and propose efficiencies in the internal routing process.
• Education: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Communications, English, Life Science, Regulatory).
• Work experience: A minimum of 3 years of editing experience in the medical communications, pharmaceutical, and/or healthcare sectors.
• At least 1 year of experience in the advertising and/or pharmaceutical marketing industry is preferred.
• A minimum of 1 year of experience editing publications (such as manuscripts, posters, etc.) is preferred.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Familiarity with scientific search engines, including PubMed and Google Scholar.
• Strong command of American Medical Association (AMA) Style (11th edition).
• Awareness of Medical Legal Regulatory (MLR) requirements and client submission platforms (e.g., Veeva).
• High degree of autonomy with a focus on teamwork and attention to detail.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; mastery of English grammar.
• Ability to prioritize projects with tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
• Preferred: Experience with MLR reviews.
• Knowledge of FDA regulations regarding pharmaceutical advertising.
• Familiarity with editing long-form writing, such as publications and dossiers.
