Medical Consultant – Psychiatrist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maine, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Deliver expert medical evaluations of claims files or underwriting applications pertinent to Unum US product lines.

• Offer high-quality, timely, and efficient medical consultative services to the Benefits Center.

• Provide prompt and clear medical guidance and opinions to team partners, supported by thorough forensic analysis.

• Collaborate with other medical consultants to conduct a comprehensive whole person analysis.

• Utilize medical expertise to assess functional capacity based on the evaluation of medical data and other relevant information related to impairment.

• Evaluate the accuracy of diagnoses, treatment plans, duration guidelines, and prognoses.

• Share pertinent medical education and knowledge with colleagues.

• Conduct telephone communications with the healthcare providers of insured individuals to obtain medical information and gain insights into claimant functional abilities.

• Make timely and appropriate referrals for second opinion assessments.

• Manage and complete a substantial volume of assigned tasks while ensuring timely turnaround.

• Emphasize teamwork and group efforts to contribute to organizational success.

• Accept feedback and implement appropriate responses and actions.

• Carry out other duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Professional Degree (MD, DO, PhD, PsyD).

• Active and unrestricted medical license in the United States.

• Board certification necessary for physicians in their specific area of specialization.

• At least five years of clinical experience in the relevant medical specialty.

• Strong skills in teamwork and collaboration.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented corporate environment.

• Capability to mentor others and to constructively give and receive feedback with peers and partners.
