Medical Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.

📋 Description

• Deliver expert medical assessments of claims files or underwriting applications across Unum US product offerings.

• Offer high-quality, prompt, and efficient medical consultative services to the Benefits Center.

• Provide timely and clear medical guidance and opinions to team associates, supported by thorough forensic analysis.

• Collaborate and consult with fellow medical consultants to conduct comprehensive whole-person assessments.

• Evaluate medical and other relevant data to ascertain functional capacity, diagnose accuracy, treatment plans, duration guidelines, and prognosis.

• Share pertinent medical education and insights with others.

• Communicate with insured individuals’ healthcare providers via telephone to collect medical information and comprehend claimants’ functional capabilities.

• Make prompt referrals for second opinion evaluations when necessary or mandated.

• Manage and fulfill a high volume of assigned tasks while ensuring adherence to turnaround times.

• Oversee team/group workload to contribute to organizational success.

• Accept feedback and take appropriate actions based on it.

• Execute other tasks as assigned.

• Regularly interact with business partners, healthcare providers, and specialized resources.

⛳️ Requirements

• Professional Degree (MD, DO, PhD, PsyD) is required.

• An active, unrestricted US medical license is mandatory.

• Board certification is necessary for physicians specializing in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, or Family Practice.

• A minimum of five years of clinical experience in the medical specialty is required.

• Strong teamwork and collaborative abilities are essential.

• Capacity to operate in a fast-paced, team-oriented corporate environment.

• Ability to mentor others and provide as well as receive constructive, behaviorally based feedback with colleagues and partners.

• Professional licenses and Board certifications must be maintained.

• Physicians and psychologists are required to conduct reviews and analyses adhering to appropriate ethical standards.
