Medical Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maine.

📋 Description

• Deliver timely and clear medical guidance and insights to team collaborators.

• Execute thorough forensic evaluations to substantiate medical assessments.

• Collaborate with other medical consultants to conduct comprehensive whole-person evaluations.

• Evaluate medical and additional data to ascertain functional capacity, diagnostic precision, treatment strategies, duration guidelines, and prognosis.

• Offer pertinent medical education tailored to the audience's level of understanding.

• Communicate with insured individuals’ healthcare providers via phone to collect medical information and assess claimants’ functional capabilities.

• Make prompt referrals for second-opinion assessments when necessary or mandated.

• Handle and finalize substantial volumes of assigned tasks while ensuring efficient turnaround times.

• Contribute to team and group workload management.

• Accept feedback and take appropriate actions in response.

• Analyze and review clinical documentation related to disability claims.

• Provide expert medical evaluations of claims files or underwriting applications across Unum US product lines.

• Regularly engage with business partners, healthcare providers, and specialized resources.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Professional Degree (MD, DO, PhD, PsyD).

• Active, unrestricted medical license in the United States.

• Board certification required for physicians in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, or Family Practice.

• At least five years of clinical experience in a relevant medical specialty.

• Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.

• Capability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented corporate environment.

• Ability to mentor others and provide as well as accept constructive, behaviorally-focused feedback with colleagues and partners.

• Maintain professional licenses and Board certifications.

• Work full-time without direct patient care responsibilities.
