• Act as the technical expert for projects involving mechanical structural support assemblies and coolant pumping components.
• Facilitate collaboration between engineering, manufacturing, and field operations to guarantee that metal frame designs are structurally robust, cost-efficient, and entirely manufacturable.
• Ensure that frames can withstand dynamic loads, maintain alignment of components, and resist external forces and conditions.
• Participate in both immediate and future research and development initiatives.
• Develop, validate, and refine detailed metal framing concepts and shop drawings utilizing 3D modeling software like SolidWorks.
• Ensure that framing designs adhere to fabrication constraints, optimize material usage, and minimize tooling and waste rates.
• Confirm that metal frame designs comply with local building regulations, load specifications, and industry standards.
• Analyze structural failures, interferences, and manufacturing defects, providing actionable, data-driven solutions.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact between customers, manufacturing, and both internal and external supply partners.
• Guide engineers, technicians, and production personnel on best practices in mechanical system design.
• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, complemented by substantial hands-on industry experience (higher-level degrees preferred).
• 8-10 years of pertinent experience.
• Must be willing to work fully remotely with 50% travel (including global travel).
• Eaton will not consider candidates for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this role, including CPT, OPT, STEM OPT, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, or I-485 job portability.
• In-depth knowledge of metallurgy, structural loading, and the mechanical properties of materials.
• Experience in designing structural steel skids and heavy-duty baseplates for industrial pumping systems.
• Familiarity with structural dampening, gussets, anchor points, and methods for reducing resonance.
• Knowledge of strict flatness tolerances relevant to mechanical assemblies.
• Expert-level understanding of heavy metal fabrication, structural steel welding (AWS D1.1), machining, and stress-relieving heat treatments.
• Understanding of the interactions between pump casings, motors, gearboxes, couplings, and pipe assembly alignment with frame assemblies.
• Awareness of planning for lifting, transportation, and installation of frame assemblies.
• Knowledge of corrosion protection methods, including hot-dip galvanizing, epoxy coatings, and zinc primers.
• High proficiency in Finite Element Analysis.
• Extensive knowledge of API 610, PIP RESP002, and AISC structural welding standards.
• Advanced understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Fully remote work setup.
• 50% travel, including international travel opportunities.
• Commitment to equal employment opportunities.
• Support for reasonable disability-related accommodations.
• Consideration for second chance employment.
