Senior Level Designer – 4-Month Contract

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with combat, systems, narrative, art, engineering, audio, and production teams to develop levels that align with the established creative vision and core gameplay principles.

• Take full ownership of levels from start to finish, including layouts, blockouts, combat zones, encounters, traversal, exploration, pacing, and player flow.

• Design captivating combat areas that accommodate diverse enemies, character builds, abilities, positioning, and various combat strategies.

• Foster rewarding exploration through optional pathways, hidden secrets, environmental storytelling, and meaningful rewards while ensuring clear navigation and progression.

• Script and implement gameplay events, encounters, objectives, triggers, and environmental interactions directly within the engine.

• Test, debug, and refine levels using playtest feedback to enhance combat flow, difficulty, pacing, readability, and replayability.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience in game development, with substantial expertise in designing and implementing levels for action, RPG, or combat-oriented games.

• Proven experience in shipping multiple titles, including at least one in a senior or equivalent level design position.

• Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex levels from initial concept and blockout through implementation, iteration, and final polish.

• Strong understanding of action RPG level design, encompassing combat spaces, encounter pacing, exploration, progression, player guidance, and replayability.

• Extensive hands-on experience with level editing, gameplay scripting, and in-engine implementation, with the capability to prototype, debug, and iterate efficiently.

• Excellent design judgment, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to balance gameplay quality, creative objectives, technical constraints, and production realities.
