This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Act as the main technical authority for mechanical infrastructure within the data center setting.
• Provide engineering leadership and specialized knowledge for essential mechanical systems such as: CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, humidification/dehumidification systems, RTUs, air handlers, economization systems, piping infrastructure, condenser water systems, and BMS/DCIM systems.
• Lead efforts in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and resolving mechanical infrastructure and thermal performance challenges.
• Offer expertise in airflow management strategies, which include hot aisle/cold aisle containment, rack-level cooling optimization, pressure differentials, and underfloor airflow distribution.
• Oversee cooling capacity planning for both current and future infrastructure expansion.
• Conduct thermal load calculations, airflow analysis, and cooling utilization evaluations for high-density compute environments.
• Assess rack-level heat loads, BTU requirements, CFM distribution, static pressure, and environmental factors to guarantee optimal thermal performance.
• Review infrastructure resiliency, redundancy, and operational risks tied to cooling capacity expansion projects.
• Assist with deployment strategies for high-density server environments, liquid cooling technologies, and next-generation thermal management solutions.
• Define specifications for critical mechanical equipment and provide product recommendations.
• Create and assess mechanical designs, modifications, and infrastructure enhancements within operational data center settings.
• Review and authorize mechanical equipment submittals, technical documentation, piping diagrams, airflow models, and infrastructure standards.
• Offer technical oversight for cooling optimization projects, energy efficiency enhancements, and modernization initiatives of mechanical systems.
• Aid in construction, installation, testing, commissioning, and turnover processes related to mechanical infrastructure projects.
• Collaborate with commissioning teams to validate the installation, operation, performance, and reliability of mechanical systems.
• Support maintenance planning and operational readiness activities for critical cooling infrastructure.
• Engage in incident response, thermal event investigations, infrastructure risk assessments, and operational reliability efforts.
• Assist operations teams in diagnosing environmental alarms, cooling failures, airflow deficiencies, and thermal anomalies.
• Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local mechanical/building codes and regulations.
• Maintain compliance with ASHRAE standards, mechanical engineering best practices, and mission-critical operational protocols.
• Investigate and evaluate new technologies, equipment, and infrastructure solutions related to data center cooling and mechanical systems, particularly liquid cooling technologies.
• Drive technical decision-making concerning cooling infrastructure, airflow management technologies, and mechanical equipment product selection.
• Contribute to long-term infrastructure strategy centered on scalability, efficiency, resilience, sustainability, and operational excellence.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Over 10 years of experience in supporting mission-critical data center environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
• Comprehensive understanding of mission-critical cooling systems and thermal management architecture.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical drawing packages, equipment diagrams, and relevant technical specifications.
• Experience in the operation and maintenance of essential mechanical infrastructure within data center settings.
• Strong expertise in HVAC systems, psychrometrics, airflow dynamics, heat transfer, and thermal load calculations.
• Proven experience in conducting cooling capacity analysis, airflow modeling, and environmental optimization.
• In-depth understanding of ASHRAE thermal guidelines and best practices for mission-critical cooling.
• Experience in supporting high-density compute environments and rack-level thermal optimization.
• Strong familiarity with applicable mechanical/building codes and standards.
• Experience in developing design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment phases.
• Competence in reading, interpreting, and producing construction drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and submittal documents.
• Proficient in using AutoCAD and/or Visio.
