This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Develop and engineer heat rejection and HVAC systems specifically designed for data centers.

• Choose suitable air/water-side cooling systems, which include fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water, DX, CRAC, in-row cooling, and containment solutions.

• Execute internal and external CFD simulations to enhance airflow, pinpoint hotspots, evaluate component interactions, and suggest design alterations.

• Liaise with other project trades regarding CFD-related modifications and their impacts.

• Design redundant and fault-tolerant HVAC systems that incorporate backup cooling, automatic switchover, and monitoring systems.

• Carry out heat-load calculations and capacity planning based on IT equipment, power density, expected growth, and project phases.

• Conduct HVAC load assessments for administrative and common facility areas.

• Implement energy-efficient HVAC solutions, including economizers, variable speed drives, energy recovery, and airflow optimization techniques.

• Create filtration and air-quality monitoring systems that address particulates, humidity, and contaminants.

• Coordinate HVAC and heat-rejection systems with electrical infrastructure, UPS, emergency power, fire suppression, and other essential systems.

• Engage in a hands-on, client-facing role on high-profile data center projects.

• Collaborate with global AECOM teams on fast-paced projects for international clients.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree along with 6+ years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

• Proficiency in data center mechanical and electrical equipment installation and operation.

• P.E. registration is mandatory.

• Familiarity with data center Tier Standard Topology, TIA 942, and ANSI/BICSI 002.

• A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution is generally required.

• Understanding of data center and mission-critical industry requirements, including scale, speed, and consistency.

• Professional HVAC certifications such as CEM, BEMP, or LEED accreditation are beneficial.

• A master's degree or advanced coursework in HVAC systems or energy management is preferred.

• Must be able to work remotely from an eligible U.S. location where AECOM has an office.
