This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Design HVAC systems, HVAC controls, chillers, boilers, water distribution, ductwork, plumbing, and fire protection systems for FAA facilities.
• Conduct on-site surveys to create “to-scale” designs and comprehensive reports.
• Produce sketches illustrating the relationship of the proposed installation in existing or new facilities, complete with precise specifications and dimensions.
• Engage in construction inspections and final assessments.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and other personnel to identify and address design or implementation issues.
• Coordinate design elements with a multi-disciplinary team as needed for site-specific modifications and new construction projects.
• Develop Autocad construction drawings and site-specific specifications, contract documents, and independent cost estimates.
• Undertake project management tasks and communication responsibilities (including safety plans, work sequences, and cutover plans).
• Create and manage the Integrated Risk Management Checklists (IRMC), communication plans, and project risk register to comply with Operational Risk Management (ORM) requirements.
• Coordinate and complete Work Permits necessary for potential lead and asbestos impacts that may arise during construction.
• Participate in meetings, including pre-construction and on-site construction gatherings with stakeholders to align with other ongoing projects.
• Organize, schedule, and coordinate construction project activities to achieve milestones and deadlines by working closely with stakeholders and contractors.
• Oversee and engage in on-site cutovers, testing, and restoration of facilities.
• Prepare, maintain, and provide regular updates on project status to the team, management, and stakeholders.
• Manage multiple projects to ensure successful and timely completion.
• Evaluate contractor design and construction submissions.
• Conduct internal design reviews of FAA-designed Terminal Engineering projects.
• Track, reconcile, and facilitate the resolution of JAI project exceptions.
• Review project deliverables and communicate findings both verbally and in writing.
• Provide timely responses to project RFIs (Requests for Information) and related submissions.
• Monitor project progress and stakeholder requirements.
• Work independently to assess, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures, exercising judgment in adapting and modifying engineering designs.
• Must possess a Mechanical Engineering Degree from an accredited College/University.
• At least 4 years of experience in mechanical systems design, including HVAC and plumbing systems within commercial, industrial, and/or government facilities.
• Must have current and relevant knowledge of building and energy codes to perform heating and cooling load calculations, ductwork sizing and layout, piping calculations and distribution, sections/elevations, and equipment sizing and selection.
• Proficient in Microsoft applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Engineering Scheduling tools and applications, and able to utilize the Internet for research and communication.
• Expertise in AUTOCAD / MICROSTATION.
• Capable of effectively communicating in both written and verbal forms, in person or virtually (via Teams or Zoom).
• Able to produce clear and concise general and technical writing and diplomatically engage with a variety of project stakeholders, peers, and management levels.
• Ability to maintain an organized electronic project folder (as required) regarding site preparation and equipment installation challenges.
• Provide technical assistance and recommendations for resolving construction-related punch-list items.
• Must be adept at conducting efficient and organized data gathering and analysis.
• Ability to develop project plans, establish project schedules, and prepare project estimates.
• Deliver organized documentation.
• Must be capable of working independently within a large Engineering Organization.
• Basic understanding of multiple disciplines and their general requirements for standard project types.
