Mechanical Design Engineer – Contractor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Develop models, drawings, and configurations of hardware, emphasizing mechanical systems such as tooling, mechanisms, and routed systems.

• Create product definitions for components and assemblies by preparing design layouts and drawings, modifying existing designs, and addressing design discrepancies.

• Apply engineering and manufacturing best practices to maintain a balanced approach to cost, schedule, and performance targets.

• Work closely with structural, thermal, and nuclear teams to implement and refine designs based on system specifications.

• Identify and implement design enhancements to improve performance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.

• Conduct model and drawing verification activities during release reviews.

• Approve component models and drawings for manufacturing in accordance with internal release and review protocols.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Drafting/Engineering Technology with over 7 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering with more than 5 years of pertinent experience.

• Proficiency in CAD software, specifically SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM, is mandatory.

• Experience in designing maritime systems, nuclear systems, ground support equipment, or manufacturing tooling.

• Familiarity with codes and standards related to maritime pressure vessel design is advantageous.

• Knowledge in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.100, Y14.5/Y14.5M, Y14.41).

• Skilled in generating drawings, performing checks, managing design documentation, and overseeing release processes.

• Hands-on experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with meticulous attention to detail.

• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Excellent organizational abilities with a capacity to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
