Master – Maritime Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Exercise comprehensive command and management authority over vessel operations and onboard personnel.

• Ensure the vessel's safe navigation and operation in compliance with COLREGs, maritime regulations, and good seamanship principles.

• Maintain adherence to applicable Class, Flag State, ISM, ISPS, and environmental standards.

• Guarantee vessel seaworthiness, stability, watertight integrity, cargo safety, and operational readiness.

• Confirm sufficient provisioning of fuel, food, water, and operational supplies before vessel operations commence.

• Ensure compliance with safe manning requirements and verify crew certifications and qualifications.

• Oversee crew welfare, discipline, professional growth, and operational performance.

• Issue and enforce standing orders, bridge procedures, and operational directives.

• Act as the Ship Security Officer (SSO) and manage the implementation of vessel security protocols and drills.

• Lead emergency response operations and command vessel-based emergency drills and exercises.

• Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and risk management activities.

• Ensure the implementation and oversight of the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and related maintenance programs.

• Assist in the deployment of the vessel Safety Management System (SMS) and operational procedures.

• Ensure the completion and upkeep of necessary documentation, logs, checklists, and risk assessments.

• Collaborate effectively with vessel leadership, company representatives, clients, survey personnel, and third parties.

• Advocate for safe work practices, environmental compliance, and operational accountability.

• Support operational efficiency and mission success in high-tempo environments.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as directed to support vessel operations and mission needs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) endorsed as Master appropriate to vessel specifications.

• Valid STCW endorsements and necessary maritime certifications.

• Extensive experience in managing and operating vessels in maritime settings.

• Strong knowledge of maritime navigation, vessel operations, cargo handling, maritime safety, and environmental compliance regulations.

• Experience in leading vessel emergency response and crew management initiatives.

• Familiarity with ISM Code, ISPS Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, and maritime regulatory standards.

• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making abilities.

• Capability to work on rotational schedules in maritime environments.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Ability to obtain and sustain a Department of Defense security clearance.
