This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Provide support for NOAA initiatives aimed at conserving marine mammals, minimizing fisheries bycatch, and facilitating the recovery of large whales and other protected species.
• Perform research and analysis that aids in management actions, fulfills regulatory obligations, contributes to reports, and addresses public inquiries.
• Assist in the execution of MMPA Sections 117/118 along with relevant ESA requirements.
• Contribute to marine mammal stock assessment documents and the List of Fisheries.
• Aid in the preparation of take authorizations, congressional reports, and associated documentation.
• Analyze and promote measures for bycatch reduction and marine mammal management.
• Support ESA recovery planning and conduct 5-year reviews for large whale populations.
• Research and compile scientific, policy, and regulatory information.
• Address public inquiries, petitions, comments, and requests related to FOIA.
• Balance conservation goals with considerations for fisheries and regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience in marine mammal conservation, fisheries bycatch issues, protected species management, natural-resource policy, or similar scientific/regulatory fields.
• Excellent research, analytical, technical writing, and document review abilities.
• Capability to interpret and consolidate scientific, statutory, and regulatory information effectively.
• Must possess eligibility to work in the U.S. and obtain necessary credentials.
• Experience with MMPA, ESA recovery planning, stock assessments, the List of Fisheries, or take authorizations is preferred.
• Background in commercial fisheries, bycatch reduction efforts, or large-whale conservation is advantageous.
