This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Create and refine technical documents, including reports, memoranda, fact sheets, guidance materials, training content, and online resources.
• Conduct data quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), user acceptance testing (UAT), and manage databases for marine mammal health and stranding systems.
• Provide assistance for MMHMAP and other marine mammal health database initiatives.
• Oversee data concerning Unusual Mortality Events (UMEs) and emergency response efforts.
• Preserve archival tissue and fluid specimens along with managing specimen-tracking databases.
• Facilitate activities related to specimen inventory, processing, archiving, and shipping.
• Support meetings, workshops, case reviews, and training for responders.
• Collaborate with partners in the stranding network and other key stakeholders.
• Enhance NOAA’s national marine mammal health and stranding programs through scientific writing, data management, specimen tracking, database operations, and emergency response assistance.
• Minimum of 3 years of pertinent experience.
• Typically requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
• Experience in marine mammal health, wildlife health, stranding response, specimen management, or scientific data handling.
• Proficiency in database management and data QA/QC processes.
• Capability to assist with specimen inventory, processing, archiving, and shipping tasks.
• Excellent technical writing and communication abilities.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and obtain necessary credentials.
• Preferred: Background in MMHSRP, UMEs, marine mammal pathology, stranding networks, or wildlife emergency response.
• Preferred: Familiarity with database testing/UAT, specimen tracking, or archival collections.
