Mandarin Interpreter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Provide precise and comprehensive interpretation between source and target languages in a consecutive format.

• Enable communication between English speakers and individuals who speak other languages.

• Accurately and completely interpret verbal communications for LanguageLine Solutions' clients and customers with limited English proficiency.

• Maintain impartiality and objectivity while adhering to established protocols.

• Utilize cultural awareness and sensitivity to navigate differences between the two languages.

• Manage the flow of calls without dominating the conversation.

• Refrain from engaging with limited-English speakers without prior client approval.

• Adhere to LanguageLine Solutions' interpreting standards and procedures.

• Employ industry-specific terminology and protocols, including those relevant to medical, legal, insurance, and governmental contexts.

• Deliver customer service with an appropriate tone, demonstrating patience and courtesy.

• Foster positive working relationships with the Contractor Liaison, Interpreter Resource Centre, and other departments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Exceptional proficiency in both English and Mandarin.

• Comprehensive understanding of the cultural nuances associated with both languages.

• Extensive vocabulary, including synonyms, idiomatic expressions, proverbs, and quotations.

• High level of accuracy and comprehension across various topics in both languages.

• Mastery of proper grammar and correct word order.

• Clear articulation, pronunciation, professional tone, and courteous expression in both languages.

• Knowledge of terminology, procedures, and/or products in sectors such as medical, financial, insurance, legal, and government.

• Ability to interpret consecutively with a strong degree of accuracy and to process information swiftly and succinctly.

• Familiarity with interpretation methods and protocols.

• Neutral stance towards clients and limited-English speakers.

• Capacity to speak clearly without any accent interference.

• Understanding of common procedures and practices in the industries served by LanguageLine Solutions.

• Cognitive ability to interpret, including quick understanding and expression.

• Capability to concentrate and follow conversations for prolonged periods.

• Proficiency in retaining and accurately conveying blocks of information.

• Ability to comprehend message meaning and foresee dialogue direction.

• Background in localization, bilingual publishing, media organizations, educational institutions, or similar bilingual environments.

• Experience living and/or studying in a bilingual setting.

• A minimum of one year of experience in industries served by LanguageLine Solutions is preferred.

• Preferred educational credentials include a bachelor's and/or master's degree, relevant doctoral degree, NRPSI, DPSI, Metropolitan Police Test, CLI2, CLI3, or a Certificate of Higher Education in a pertinent field.
