Mandarin Interpreter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Provide precise and comprehensive interpretations between source and target languages during consecutive interpretation.

• Enable communication between English speakers and individuals speaking other languages.

• Convey verbal messages for clients and customers of LanguageLine Solutions who have limited proficiency in English.

• Maintain impartiality and objectivity while adhering to established protocols.

• Acknowledge and sensitively address cultural differences.

• Oversee call flow without dominating the conversation.

• Refrain from engaging with the limited-English speaker without obtaining permission from the client.

• Comply with LanguageLine Solutions' interpreting guidelines and established procedures.

• Utilize specific industry terminology and protocols, including those related to medical, court, insurance, and government contexts.

• Deliver outstanding customer service through an appropriate tone, patience, and courtesy.

• Foster positive working relationships with the Contractor Liaison, Interpreter Resource Centre, and other departments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Exceptional proficiency in both English and Mandarin.

• Comprehensive understanding of the cultural nuances associated with both languages.

• High level of accuracy in both languages and comprehension across various subjects of differing complexity.

• Mastery of correct syntax, grammar, pronunciation, and professional forms of expression.

• Proficient in terminology, procedures, and/or products within sectors such as Medical, Financial, Insurance, Courts & Tribunals, Police, and Government Agencies.

• Capable of providing consecutive interpretation with a high degree of precision.

• Familiarity with interpretation methods and procedures.

• Neutral stance towards both the client and the limited English speaker.

• Ability to articulate clearly without accent interference.

• Capacity to concentrate and follow discussions for extended durations.

• Ability to retain and accurately convey blocks of information.

• Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.

• Demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, emotional stability, objectivity, reliability, honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness.

• Strong customer service skills, including sensitivity, politeness, and courtesy.

• Preferred: one year of professional experience in sectors for which LanguageLine Solutions offers interpretation services.

• Experience in written translation and/or interpretation, localization, bilingual publishing, media organizations, educational institutions, and/or similar bilingual environments.

• Background living and/or studying in a bilingual setting.

• Preferred educational credentials: Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Languages, Translation, Interpretation, Philology, Linguistics, or related disciplines; Ph.D. or Doctoral degree in related fields; NRPSI; DPSI; Metropolitan Police Test; CLI2; CLI3; Certificate of Higher Education in Translation, Interpretation, Languages, Philology, or Linguistics.
