This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Implement AI and agentic tools in DevOps and infrastructure tasks, including automated remediation, anomaly detection, capacity and cost optimization, as well as agent-assisted incident response and execution of runbooks.
• Utilize AI in Information Security for tasks such as AI-assisted log and alert triage, collection of compliance evidence, prioritization of vulnerabilities, and detection of phishing and threats, ensuring human oversight for all critical security matters.
• Propel organization-wide AI integration for technical operations by assessing and deploying agentic tools to benefit the larger organization.
• Establish guidelines for safe AI implementation within a regulated context, encompassing data management, auditability, and the vetting of models and tools, ensuring compliance is not sacrificed for speed.
• Take responsibility for the reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of our AWS-native infrastructure, including services like Lambda, Step Functions, Kinesis, Connect, Bedrock, and others.
• Enhance CI/CD practices, infrastructure-as-code methodologies (using SAM/CloudFormation/Terraform), and ensure consistency across development, staging, and production environments.
• Manage observability aspects such as logging, monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes, aiming to reduce mean time to recovery (MTTR).
• Oversee on-call rotations and runbooks, providing a composed and decisive presence during incidents.
• Take charge of the security posture for a HIPAA- and CMS-regulated platform, focusing on policies, controls, risk assessments, and readiness for audits.
• Lead compliance initiatives for SOC 2 and HIPAA, conduct vendor security evaluations, and manage incident response strategies.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to enforce secure-by-default practices, including secrets management, least-privilege IAM, handling of protected health information (PHI), and encryption for data at rest and in transit.
• Manage security awareness training and access governance throughout the organization.
• Supervise corporate IT functions such as employee onboarding and offboarding, endpoint management, SSO/identity (using Okta or similar), device security, and helpdesk support.
• Handle vendor and SaaS management, encompassing procurement, licensing, and access evaluations.
• Develop scalable, self-service IT processes suitable for our growing workforce.
• Build and lead a small, effective team as the function expands, prioritizing hiring quality and knowing when to rely on automation and effective tools instead of increasing headcount.
• Collaborate closely with the VP of Engineering, Data Engineering, and Product teams concerning shared infrastructure needs.
• Represent technical operations to the board, auditors, and enterprise customers/partners as required.
• Establish and report on operational key performance indicators (KPIs) such as uptime, deployment frequency, MTTR, and rate of closure for security findings.
• Minimum of 5 years in a technical operations, DevOps, infrastructure, or security leadership position, preferably with at least 2 years of experience in managing teams or leading cross-functional projects.
• In-depth hands-on knowledge of AWS, including IAM, networking, serverless, and container services.
• Direct experience with security compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, HIPAA, and ISO 27001 — having participated in an audit rather than merely studying one.
• Strong background in infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices.
• Experience in a regulated or high-stakes environment, such as healthcare, fintech, or insurance, is a considerable advantage.
• A builder's mindset: comfortable with uncertainty, resistant to unnecessary processes, and inclined towards reversible, incremental decision-making.
• Exceptional judgment in high-pressure situations — you remain composed when production issues arise.
• Clear communicator capable of translating technical risks into business language for non-technical stakeholders.
• Equity compensation
• Comprehensive health care, including dental and vision, provided through our PEO Sequoia
• Flexible work location options; co-working space available
• 401k plan
• Paid Time Off
• Monthly Remote Work Stipend to assist with home-office expenses
• Paid Parental Leave
• Up to 14 weeks for birthing parents
• Up to 8 weeks for non-birthing parents
• 11 paid holidays
• 2-week sabbatical after 5 years of employment
• Wellbeing perks through SpringHealth, OneMedical, PerkSpot, and SoFi
