Manager, Software Engineering – AI and Data Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership and advance the core capabilities of the Data & AI platform, which includes ingestion, transformation, lakehouse architecture, feature services, and layers for AI/ML enablement.

• Guide platform-related decisions that align with Blackbaud’s Unified Data & AI Platform Strategy, emphasizing modularity, interoperability, and AI-first design.

• Collaborate with Architecture, Governance, and Security teams to ensure that the platform meets standards for trust, compliance, and Responsible AI.

• Make informed build versus buy decisions, focusing on core competencies while minimizing operational complexity.

• Lead teams in executing high-impact platform initiatives that align with AOP priorities, such as legacy modernization, cloud migration, cost optimization, and agent enablement.

• Maintain platform reliability through operational excellence, including monitoring, incident management, and performance enhancement.

• Create clear roadmaps, milestones, and success metrics for platform initiatives.

• Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing platform engineers across different locations.

• Offer regular feedback, coaching, and career development in line with Blackbaud’s people strategy.

• Ensure that every team member has defined goals, an active Individual Development Plan (IDP), and opportunities to enhance their skills in modern Data & AI.

• Work closely with Product, Data Science, Analytics, and Product Engineering teams to ensure the platform facilitates rather than hinders delivery.

• Shape standards and best practices across the Data Intelligence Center of Excellence (COE).

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software, data, or platform engineering, preferably with .NET, Azure, Databricks, or ADO.

• More than 3 years of experience in managing and developing data engineering teams.

• Practical experience with modern data platforms, cloud data lakes/lakehouses, distributed processing, streaming, and APIs.

• Strong comprehension of platform engineering principles and the ability to operate production systems at scale.

• Demonstrated capability to lead in uncertain environments and influence stakeholders without formal authority.
