This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Create and generate written and visual materials such as testimony, talking points, one-pagers, fact sheets, toolkits, presentations, briefing documents, reports, and digital content.
• Convert intricate legislative language, policy proposals, research findings, and programmatic data into clear, engaging, audience-focused communications.
• Write and refine content for policymakers, program collaborators and practitioners, advocates, and the media.
• Discover compelling stories, visuals, data points, and methods of communication that bring policy and program initiatives to life and promote the adoption of identified best practices.
• Ensure that communication materials are precise, appropriate for the audience, consistent with branding, and aligned with organizational messaging frameworks.
• Collaborate with Communications colleagues from marketing, design, and creative teams to facilitate integrated campaign execution.
• Organize and maintain communications resources, messaging documents, and content libraries to assist internal stakeholders.
• Work alongside colleagues to support Share Our Strength's commitment to diversity and inclusion, integrating this value throughout its initiatives.
• Report to the Associate Director, Media & Public Affairs.
• This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
• A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
• 3-5+ years of experience in communications, public affairs, policy communications, journalism, public policy, or a similar field.
• Exceptional skills in writing, editing, and storytelling.
• Proven experience in translating complex policy, legislative, or research content into effective communications.
• Ability to identify engaging and effective methods of visualizing or presenting data, research, and policy information.
• Experience in creating content for diverse audiences, including policymakers, advocates, program partners, and the media.
• Preferred candidates will have experience working with federal nutrition or benefits programs.
• A solid understanding of public policy, advocacy, and legislative processes.
• Capacity to synthesize information from various sources and pinpoint the most compelling narratives and messages.
• Highly organized with the capability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-management skills, enabling effective collaboration across teams and functions.
• Strong judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
