Manager, Mid-Ticket Credit Underwriting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee a team of Mid-Ticket Credit Analysts, ensuring timely, consistent, and sound credit decisions.

• Underwrite and assess complex transactions related to commercial equipment financing.

• Recruit, coach, mentor, train, and evaluate the performance of Credit Analysts.

• Offer guidance on complicated transactions, decision appeals, post-approval modifications, and recommendations for the Credit Committee.

• Collaborate with Sales and Originators to structure transactions that balance growth with risk.

• Develop, manage, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality, production, service, attendance, and workflow.

• Ensure the completeness and accuracy of Mid-Ticket Credit Files in Salesforce and Shared Drives.

• Manage the Post-Funding Queue and fulfill requests within designated timeframes.

• Conduct customer due diligence, financial analysis, credit underwriting memos, approval notes, and presentation materials.

• Analyze and interpret balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, tax returns, interim statements, and supporting schedules.

• Assess cash flow adequacy, leverage, liquidity, profitability, working capital, debt service capacity, and risk ratings.

• Clearly present qualitative, financial, and equipment underwriting issues to the Credit Committee.

• Assist Originators in gathering customer information and provide feedback on transaction underwriting status.

• Support Docs & Funding with non-standard transaction elements and assist Collections with late payments or exposure modifications.

• Implement Credit Policies, suggest policy changes, and provide both formal and informal credit training.

• Set performance expectations, conduct reviews and development meetings, participate in hiring processes, and enforce disciplinary actions.


⛳️ Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of commercial credit underwriting principles, risk assessment, and equipment finance.

• Strong leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance management capabilities.

• Proficient in spreading, analyzing, and interpreting business financial statements, tax returns, interim financial statements, and cash flow.

• Solid understanding of leverage, liquidity, debt service coverage, working capital, profitability, and financial ratio analysis.

• Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities in complex credit scenarios.

• Capability to underwrite transactions across various industries while balancing risk, customer requirements, and business goals.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present recommendations to the Credit Committee and senior management.

• Strong planning, organizational, and time-management skills.

• Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

• Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with personnel, customers, Originators, Sales, Operations, and Collections.

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial credit underwriting or risk management, with substantial hands-on experience in equipment finance underwriting.

• At least 5 years of leadership or management experience supervising commercial credit underwriting professionals.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in equipment finance involving both new and used equipment.

• Experience in underwriting across transportation, industrial, specialty vehicle, tow and recovery, manufacturing, construction, and franchise sectors.

• Proven capability to coach, mentor, and develop underwriting professionals.

• A Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is preferred; equivalent relevant commercial lending experience may also be considered.
