Manager, Machine Learning Engineering – Checkout

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Oversee a team of machine learning engineers who are developing models that drive credit lending decisions across Europe and Australia.

• Spearhead the implementation of innovative machine learning methodologies and comprehensive data representations to forecast repayment behavior and enhance loan offerings.

• Establish the technical roadmap for the team and link engineers to underwriting projects that impact the business.

• Define and promote technical solutions and operational workflows.

• Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, risk, and engineering throughout the product development lifecycle.

• Ensure the understanding and management of technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.

• Cultivate talent through constructive feedback, mentorship, and leading by example.

• Collaborate with engineering, product, and risk leaders to design, implement, and scale advanced machine learning solutions.

• Contribute to the development of a unified long-term machine learning strategy.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with over 8 years of industry experience, including more than 3 years in a management role overseeing engineers.

• Experience in the financial services sector, particularly in credit and lending.

• Expertise in machine learning, encompassing tree-based models, transformers, deep learning, and agentic ML.

• Strong engineering capabilities and the ability to deliver hands-on technical leadership while engaging with code and system architecture.

• Comfort in transitioning from low-level language idioms to the architecture of extensive systems.

• Participation in an on-call rotation is mandatory.

• Must reside in Spain.
