Manager, Machine Learning Engineering, Checkout

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Oversee a team of machine learning engineers responsible for developing models that drive credit lending decisions across Europe and Australia.

• Spearhead the implementation of innovative machine learning methodologies and comprehensive data representations to forecast repayment behavior and enhance loan offerings.

• Establish the technical direction for the team and link engineers to underwriting projects that have a significant business impact.

• Define and promote effective technical solutions and operational workflows.

• Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, risk, and engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

• Ensure the understanding and management of technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.

• Mentor engineers by providing constructive feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

• Work alongside engineering, product, and risk leaders to design, implement, and scale advanced machine learning solutions.

• Contribute to the long-term machine learning strategy of Affirm.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.

• Over 8 years of experience in the industry.

• More than 3 years of experience in managing engineering teams.

• Experience in the financial services sector, particularly in credit and lending.

• Expertise in machine learning, including tree-based models, transformers, deep learning, and agentic ML.

• Strong engineering capabilities.

• Proven ability to offer hands-on technical leadership, including code and architectural guidance.

• Proficiency in transitioning from low-level language idioms to large-system architecture.

• Capacity to navigate and resolve ambiguity effectively.
