This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Assemble and lead a team with extensive platform knowledge in Git and Gitaly, focusing on recruiting and nurturing engineers who can manage this infrastructure layer with sound operational judgment.
• Take responsibility for the production reliability of Git and Gitaly throughout GitLab's entire deployment landscape.
• Oversee incident management, root cause analysis, and postmortems, possessing the technical insight to differentiate between Git internals issues and general infrastructure challenges.
• Create and manage service models for Git and Gitaly that function across Self-Managed, GitLab Dedicated, and SaaS environments, with a clear understanding of which components are universal and which need to vary.
• Uphold cloud-agnostic architectural and tooling choices, steering clear of designs that rely on a singular hyperscaler's features.
• Collaborate with teams responsible for each deployment model to ensure operational practices remain cohesive rather than splintering into distinct playbooks.
• Implement principles of distributed systems, including consistency, replication, and failure domains, within Gitaly's storage and replication framework.
• Develop an elastic storage and compute strategy for Git repository data, encompassing capacity planning, autoscaling, and usage-based provisioning for GitLab's largest self-managed and SaaS clients.
• Understanding of GitLab's product and deployment models, as well as how Git and Gitaly facilitate repository operations in self-managed, dedicated, and SaaS settings.
• Practical expertise in Git internals, encompassing the behavior of the protocol, object model, and storage layer under load and at scale, rather than just familiarity with Git usage.
• Solid foundation in distributed systems principles, including consistency, replication, failure management, and horizontal scalability.
• Proven experience in managing production infrastructure across various deployment models, such as self-managed, dedicated or single-tenant, and multi-tenant SaaS, or a credible transition from related experience.
• Background in elastic storage and compute systems, as well as designing consumption-based systems for variable and unpredictable workloads.
• Experience in people management, ideally leading teams focused on site reliability engineering or platform operations.
• Direct experience with Gitaly, libgit2, JGit, or the internals of another Git implementation is a plus.
• Familiarity with operating cloud-agnostic infrastructure across multiple hyperscalers or on-premises setups is advantageous.
• Benefits to support your health, finances, and well-being
• Flexible Paid Time Off
• Team Member Resource Groups
• Equity Compensation & Employee Stock Purchase Plan
• Growth and Development Fund
• Parental Leave
