This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee cloud database infrastructure, which includes AlloyDB, Redis, Kafka, capacity planning, vendor management for databases, commitment/CUD strategy, and financial accountability.
• Facilitate the modernization of identity and access management, encompassing migration to a contemporary identity platform, high-risk access limits, and an emergency break-glass protocol.
• Manage the data lifecycle and strategy, focusing on data aging, archiving, and retention across a multi-year timeframe.
• Contribute to a database observability framework that encompasses logging, metrics, and actionable alerts.
• Direct high-availability operations for peak live events through on-call design, war-room readiness, staffing strategies, and vendor escalation coordination.
• Take charge of the data aspects of business continuity and disaster recovery planning and execution.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure on shared resources, caching, messaging/queues, and the boundaries between application and data infrastructure.
• Ensure database security and compliance, which includes vulnerability remediation, edge security, access controls, compliance, and audits.
• Manage relationships and contracts with database vendors, including budget management and negotiations.
• Build and expand the team, cultivate technical leaders, delegate responsibilities, and establish redundancy for essential tasks.
• Act as a representative for DBRE in cross-functional planning related to feature launches, load testing, and migrations.
• Balance Keep The Lights On (KTLO) tasks with productivity initiatives and prioritize a multi-quarter infrastructure roadmap.
• 5+ years of experience managing database, DevOps, or SRE teams, preferably for a consumer product characterized by real-time, high-concurrency, or seasonal/event-driven traffic.
• Extensive hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred; AWS or similar relevant), relational and non-relational databases (AlloyDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB), and infrastructure-as-code (Crossplane, Cuelang, Terraform, Ansible, or similar).
• Proven experience in running identity/access management programs and modern observability/monitoring stacks, as well as building incident management practices that perform well under pressure.
• A history of managing cloud costs and vendor relationships, commitment-use/reserved capacity strategies, contract negotiations, and budget management.
• Strong foundation in security best practices and compliance standards relevant to a rapidly evolving consumer platform.
• A demonstrated capability to mentor technical leaders and delegate responsibilities; view management as a means to support and empower your team.
• Exceptional communication skills and the discernment to identify risks early, preventing surprises.
• Experience in a technology startup environment is a significant advantage.
• Relevant DevOps, Cloud, or SRE certifications are beneficial.
