Manager, Data Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +28 more states.

📋 Description

• Lead and supervise a team of 3–5 data/software engineers to execute the data product roadmap.

• Oversee the development of scalable, secure, and observable data pipelines and warehouse layers utilizing Python, SQL, Snowflake, DBT, Airflow, and Kafka.

• Manage sprint planning, estimation, daily standups, and retrospectives.

• Collaborate with Analytics, Product, and Engineering teams to define data requirements and align with business priorities.

• Provide guidance on monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues.

• Maintain best practices in testing, CI/CD, code reviews, and documentation.

• Mentor team members in technical execution, effective communication, and career development.

• Eliminate process bottlenecks to enhance velocity, quality, performance, and cost efficiency.

• Engage in hiring and onboarding processes.

• Assess current data systems, pipelines, and platform architecture.

• Ensure accountability for the roadmap, data quality, pipeline reliability, platform scalability, and overall team performance.

• Adapt team structure and operational models as business needs evolve.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering, including 1–2 years in a leadership role.

• Demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring data engineers.

• Extensive knowledge of modern data platforms such as Snowflake, DBT, Airflow, Airbyte, RudderStack, Kafka, etc.

• Proficient in Python, SQL, and data modeling techniques (3NF, dimensional, data vault).

• Experience in delivering robust, observable, secure, and scalable data pipelines.

• Familiar with Agile product delivery methodologies and cross-functional collaboration.

• Excellent communication skills with a focus on clarity and action.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship, now or in the future.

• Preferred: experience with third-party data ingestion and processing, leading delivery pipelines, marketing attribution, customer segmentation, and personalized user experiences.

• Preferred: knowledge of data monetization/licensing or external data product delivery.

• Preferred: experience with external datasets or geospatial data.
