Manager, Analytics Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Guide, mentor, and advance a team of Lead and Senior Analytics Engineers, fostering career development, enhancing performance, and cultivating a high-trust team environment.

• Remain actively involved: create and assess SQL/dbt code, spearhead technical design, and maintain rigorous standards for craftsmanship, testing, and documentation within our Snowflake + dbt ecosystem.

• Manage the roadmap for your team’s segment of the analytics platform, prioritizing initiatives that yield the greatest business impact while balancing delivery, quality, and technical debt.

• Promote Forward’s data centralization vision by collaborating with Business Intelligence and the broader Analytics department to design and implement scalable data models, marts, and a dependable semantic layer that acts as the organization’s single source of truth.

• Oversee the development of our semantic layer and metrics standards to ensure key business KPIs are defined consistently, governed effectively, and utilized uniformly across dashboards, models, AI agents, and downstream products.

• Convert vague business challenges from leadership and cross-functional stakeholders into clearly defined technical solutions, effectively communicating trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Advocate for data quality, observability, and governance—encompassing testing, lineage, cataloging, and incident response—so stakeholders can rely on the accuracy of the data.

• Promote technical excellence within our dbt project by focusing on model architecture, performance optimization, incremental strategies, and CI/CD practices that scale with increasing data volume and team size.

• Contribute to shaping our hiring standards by recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding outstanding Analytics Engineers as the team expands.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or Business Intelligence, with a robust foundation in SQL and dimensional/data modeling.

• More than 2 years of managerial experience leading senior individual contributors, including overseeing performance and career advancement.

• Extensive hands-on knowledge of dbt and a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake is strongly preferred), encompassing incremental models, testing methodologies, and macros.

• Proven experience in designing and managing a semantic or metrics layer that functions as a reliable source of truth throughout the organization.

• A history of direct collaboration with senior cross-functional leaders (Finance, Risk, Operations, Product, etc.) to transform business challenges into sustainable data products.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills—capable of making intricate technical decisions understandable to executives and non-technical partners.

• Established ability to coach engineers, elevate the technical standards, and consistently deliver against an ambitious roadmap.
