Manager, AI/ML Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Facilitate the technical development of machine learning engineers through weekly one-on-one meetings, performance management, and clearly outlined career paths.

• Lead the quarterly planning process for AI/ML initiatives and prioritize projects such as clinical program mapping.

• Foster an inclusive and high-performance engineering culture through knowledge sharing, mentorship, and strict technical standards.

• Collaborate with Product Management and Data Science leaders to convert complex clinical requirements into robust, safety-focused production models.

• Supervise the ML software development lifecycle by conducting design reviews and guiding the transition from experimental research to stable microservices deployed on Kubernetes.

• Offer strategic architectural guidance and prototypes to enhance the team's overall technical influence.

• Drive the implementation of Lyra’s machine learning roadmap.

• Scale and mentor a high-impact AI/ML engineering team.

• Ensure that the technical vision is realized in production-grade systems with clinical accuracy and high availability.

• Cultivate cross-functional relationships with physicians, therapists, data scientists, and product leaders.

• Proven track record in engineering management, specifically in leading and scaling high-performing ML/AI teams in production settings.

• Strong capability to nurture technical talent, manage performance, and foster a collaborative team culture.

• Demonstrated experience in balancing long-term technical strategy and model governance with everyday people leadership.

• Solid technical background in machine learning systems, including transformers, neural networks, and fine-tuning techniques.

• Expertise in the ML software development lifecycle, covering dataset lineage, automated evaluation, and scaling microservices deployment.

• Significant experience in architecting cloud-native solutions on AWS or comparable cloud service providers.

• Exceptional skill in translating ambiguous technical challenges into clear strategic priorities and influencing leadership across engineering, product, and business domains.

• Proficient in writing high-performance production code in Java or Kotlin.

• Experience in architecting AI/ML systems within regulated environments, encompassing HIPAA compliance, SOC 2, and managing PHI/PII.

• Background in developing internal developer platforms or ML tools utilized by numerous data scientists and engineers.
