This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Execute post-issue audits and oversee new underwriting initiatives to ensure technical precision, adherence to guidelines, and the quality of underwriting decisions.
• Assess underwriting decisions for medical, financial, and operational validity in line with company guidelines, risk appetite, and mortality assumptions.
• Detect significant errors, trends, and patterns in audit outcomes.
• Create structured reports along with recommendations for management.
• Collaborate with Underwriting Management and Risk Management on Corrective Action Plans and track remediation efforts.
• Assist in enhancing the Underwriting Risk Control Framework, which includes control design, key risk indicators, and governance standards.
• Convert audit findings into focused training, coaching, and guideline clarifications in partnership with Training & Development.
• Evaluate and test new tools, rules engines, and GenAI solutions concerning their influence on underwriting quality and risk.
• Support targeted audits for Underwriting Innovation initiatives.
• Maintain audit documentation for internal audits, governance committees, and regulatory scrutiny.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of audit frameworks, metrics, and reporting.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in life insurance underwriting, demonstrating proficiency in both medical and financial underwriting.
• Comprehensive understanding of life insurance products, underwriting guidelines, and principles of risk selection.
• Capacity to interpret intricate medical and financial data and evaluate risk accurately.
• Exceptional analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
• Skill in recognizing patterns and root causes within audit findings.
• Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
• Proficiency in presenting findings clearly and constructively to underwriters and leadership.
• High degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when managing sensitive information.
• Experience in auditing, quality assurance, or risk management roles within life underwriting is preferred.
• Familiarity with governance frameworks, risk controls, and regulatory requirements related to underwriting is preferred.
• Comfort with data handling, including proficiency in Excel and BI tools, is preferred.
• Professional designations such as ALU, FALU, FLMI, or equivalent are preferred.
• Technical expertise in medical and financial underwriting.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Objectivity and fairness in evaluations and feedback.
