This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Support the Laboratory Revenue Integrity & RCM Manager in managing audits and schedules.
• Perform coding audits for Laboratory Coding & Billing Representatives as well as Pathologists.
• Provide individual and group training sessions for team members and Pathologists.
• Execute audits on billing workflows and charge integrity to verify that laboratory orders and charges are accurately transmitted to EPIC.
• Gather and monitor statistics related to the audit process.
• Act as the senior coding expert within the department.
• Onboard and train new billing personnel on laboratory coding and billing standards.
• Participate in meetings with Pathologists, LIS, Revenue Cycle, and HIM concerning coding and auditing practices.
• Analyze and interpret billing data to assess performance and departmental benchmarks.
• Stay updated on current coding regulations and inform team members of any changes.
• Identify trends in coding-related denials, determine root causes, and provide recommendations to leadership for resolution.
• Foster collaborative relationships to ensure accurate system configuration.
• Monitor and trend role functions for reporting purposes.
• Discuss audits and educational needs with the Manager of Laboratory Revenue Integrity & RCM.
• Develop coding guidelines in collaboration with Laboratory Leadership and ensure prompt completion of coding team audits.
• Report compliance issues and other concerns to Laboratory Leadership.
• Must be capable of performing the essential functions of a Laboratory Billing & Coding Representative.
• Possess Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification from AHIMA.
• Hold Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from AAPC.
• Relevant work experience in coding.
• Familiarity with CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and place of service coding.
• Understanding of current and necessary coding regulations.
• Ability to interpret and analyze billing data effectively.
• Skill in pinpointing root causes of coding-related denials.
• Proficiency in working with EPIC and laboratory information systems.
• Capability to collaborate with Pathologists, LIS, Revenue Cycle, HIM, and other departments.
