This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Collaborate with level design leadership to establish objectives, desired player experience, and quality standards for designated content.
• Design, block out, implement, and refine open-world locations and points of interest using Unreal Engine 5.
• Create gameplay environments that facilitate exploration, traversal, encounters, puzzles, pacing, challenges, and environmental storytelling.
• Utilize Blueprint and project-specific tools to implement objectives, triggers, encounter logic, scripted behaviors, state changes, and other interactive elements.
• Position, configure, and adjust enemies, NPCs, gameplay objects, and environmental components.
• Collaborate with design, engineering, art, production, QA, and partner teams.
• Participate in playtests and design reviews, iterating based on feedback received.
• Create and maintain documentation, layout callouts, encounter notes, task updates, and acceptance criteria.
• Ensure organized content, adherence to naming conventions, source control practices, and overall level hygiene.
• Identify risks, blockers, and dependencies, adapting to shifting priorities or creative direction.
• Develop open-world content for a prominent AAA action-adventure title within a legendary franchise as part of a co-development team.
• Level Designer I candidates should typically possess two or more years of relevant professional experience.
• Level Designer II candidates should generally have five or more years of relevant professional experience.
• Professional experience in designing and implementing gameplay spaces in Unreal Engine 5 or a similar modern game engine.
• Practical experience utilizing Blueprint or comparable visual scripting tools.
• Strong understanding of level design principles, including spatial composition, navigation, gameplay flow, sightlines, traversal, pacing, readability, and player guidance.
• Experience in creating encounters, puzzles, activities, or other interactive content in both authored and open-world environments.
• Ability to work with AI behaviors, gameplay objects, scripted events, triggers, and environmental content.
• Strong creative problem-solving abilities and capacity to iterate within technical, production, and scope constraints.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to collaborate across disciplines and with external development partners.
• Familiarity with Perforce, Jira, Confluence, or equivalent tools.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced, distributed development setting.
• Level Designer II candidates should have contributed to at least two shipped AA or AAA projects.
• A portfolio showcasing level layouts, playable spaces, blockouts, or completed level-design work is preferred.
• Experience in developing open-world action-adventure content, traversal challenges, environmental puzzles, and AAA full or co-development environments is a plus.
