Legal Intern, State Supreme Court Initiative

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Perform research and writing tasks related to litigation in state courts, with an emphasis on state supreme courts.

• Provide assistance with civil rights and civil liberties litigation and research in state courts nationwide.

• Prepare memoranda, motions, and sections of briefs.

• Execute legal and factual research on issues and cases within state courts across the country.

• Monitor cases and topics of significance to the State Supreme Court Initiative.

• Collaborate with ACLU affiliates and other partners on strategies for state constitutional litigation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a currently enrolled legal student.

• Required to be based in the U.S. for the entire internship duration.

• Must be enrolled at an accredited U.S. law school.

• Should have completed at least one year of law school prior to the start of the internship.

• Strong research capabilities, including proficiency in internet searches, Westlaw, PACER, and other legal databases.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, encompassing both in-person and teleconferencing interactions.

• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, time management, and ability to meet deadlines.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

• A commitment to furthering the ACLU's mission.

• Legal authorization to work for stipend eligibility.
