This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +29 more states.
• Conduct research on a variety of legal inquiries
• Create licensing agreements
• Formulate internal and external policies
• Lead tailored projects under the mentorship of a Legal Department attorney
• Attend and engage in both internal and external meetings
• Collaborate with the supervising attorney on various initiatives
• Receive constructive feedback and support while gaining practical experience in in-house legal operations at a web-based organization
• Currently enrolled in law school or a recent graduate
• High enthusiasm for and dedication to the Wikimedia Foundation's mission of free knowledge
• Interest in issues surrounding free culture, digital rights, open source software, Creative Commons licensing, and related topics
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with rapid turnaround times
• Intellectual curiosity and the flexibility to creatively address challenging and ambiguous problems
• Experience with large online user communities or a strong desire to engage with them
• Capability to excel in a transparent and collaborative setting, working with diverse teams across various demographic and cultural backgrounds
• Exceptional writing skills, adaptable to convey complex legal concepts to a wide audience
• Completion of coursework in internet law, freedom of expression, intellectual property, contract drafting, international law, privacy, data security, and/or licensing is not mandatory; however, experience in these fields is highly preferred
• Valid work authorization in the employee's location for non-US applicants
• Candidates with a strong research background, experience with wiki or Wikimedia projects, policy/agreement drafting experience, relevant academic coursework, or multilingual skills are preferred or considered a plus
