This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Deliver a comprehensive array of legal services throughout the hospital.
• Assist the team in overseeing and ensuring compliance with legal obligations for the hospital's administrative and clinical departments, emphasizing corporate/commercial matters and health law.
• Draft, negotiate, and review contracts along with commercial transactions and related documentation.
• Collaborate closely with directors and managers to fulfill their contractual needs.
• Provide legal guidance to staff and management on matters including contract law, administrative law, corporate/commercial law, and health law.
• Identify potential legal and statutory risks, assess acceptable risk levels, and offer informed recommendations.
• Create policies and procedures aimed at recognizing and mitigating legal risks.
• Lead compliance programs related to legislation and offer training sessions.
• Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory changes and inform the hospital of their implications.
• Support the maintenance of legislative registrars.
• A bachelor’s degree in law or a recognized equivalent is required.
• Must be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• A certificate in Health Law or Privacy Law is preferred.
• A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience as in-house counsel or at a leading law firm, ideally within a health law context.
• Candidates with experience in a healthcare organization or a similar public sector entity are preferred.
• Proven ability to engage positively and work collaboratively with colleagues and staff as part of a team.
• Demonstrated skills in collaborative planning within a fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of the importance of policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Capability to draft and negotiate agreements independently.
• Familiarity with Privacy laws in Ontario.
• High level of proficiency in relevant legislation across various legal disciplines.
• Attributes such as fairness, openness, patience, and a strong sense of integrity.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to simplify complex regulatory standards for diverse audiences.
• Outstanding customer service, interpersonal, negotiation, and diplomacy skills while maintaining assertiveness and proactivity.
• Superior organizational and time management skills to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn new areas and work with minimal supervision.
• Experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred; experience in a multi-site facility is advantageous.
• Proven track record in building and maintaining effective collaborative professional relationships and partnerships.
• Experience in conducting regulatory and legal research is preferred.
