This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• The Lead Systems Engineer offers leadership, expertise, and assigns tasks for the creation of design documents related to building automation systems (BAS), electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS), and software integration design projects within hyperscale data centers and similar mission-critical technology sectors.
• Develop and implement engineering solutions for Building Automation Systems (55%).
• Act as the client program lead, project trade lead, and subject matter expert for the BAS and EPMS scope across one or more projects or programs.
• Establish client standards, basis of design (BOD), conduct feasibility studies, and support clients in creating building automation roadmaps.
• Lead the design of DDC and PLC-based BAS and EPMS systems.
• Design the controls network/system architecture, incorporating IT and OT requirements.
• Select instrumentation, sensors, actuators, valves, and other field devices.
• Collaborate with equipment, system, and product vendors to define building automation interface requirements.
• Generate and review project books and sheet specifications.
• Create and assess sequences of operations.
• Develop and evaluate system diagrams and point/alarm lists.
• Work closely with client IT departments regarding network design, interface specifics, and security requirements.
• Provide guidance on engineering production aspects utilizing both internal and external Revit/BIM resources.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or a related field OR two years of hands-on experience with the installation, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of controls infrastructure, along with a minimum of eight additional years of experience in BAS and EPMS design.
• At least half of this experience must involve hyperscale or colocation data center projects.
• Proficient in guiding clients through BAS project designs, including identifying standards, needs, and evaluating options.
• Capable of completing assignments with precision and attention to detail.
• Proficient in using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), coupled with excellent organizational skills for file management.
• Experienced in designing BAS and EPMS packages.
• Familiar with the construction design process, stakeholders, and deliverables.
• Knowledgeable about code requirements and energy guidelines applicable to BAS designs.
• Familiar with data center HVAC applications and BAS control strategies, including chilled water plants.
• Knowledgeable in IoT and smart building solutions.
• Understanding of networking concepts, including addressing, VLANs, LANs, switches, and routers.
• Knowledge of open-source protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and SNMP.
• Familiar with DDC systems utilized in building automation designs.
• Knowledgeable in PLC systems used in building automation designs.
• Strong organizational skills, with the capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to utilize AI and emerging technologies to enhance workflows, optimize operational processes, and drive company-wide innovation.
• Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms, capable of conveying technical and non-technical information.
• Ability to communicate directly with clients and occasionally act as the primary point of contact.
