This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Serve as the principal structural engineer and engineer of record for substations, switchyards, and various electrical infrastructure projects, encompassing both greenfield and brownfield developments.
• Offer technical leadership, oversight, and direction to a technical team, with the objective of strategically growing to support a national client base.
• Conduct engineering calculations and create analytical models for structural steel and concrete design.
• Collaborate with Project Engineers and Project Managers to establish workload forecasts, design timelines, and budgets for civil/structural work activities.
• Assist in developing task and effort estimates to support proposals.
• Play a role in shaping the overall business development strategy for substation and high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate with the civil/structural design team to ensure the timely completion of engineering drawings.
• Engage in multi-discipline collaboration to develop general arrangements, vendor procurement packages, and similar deliverables.
• Create, update, and enforce group-specific standards.
• Draft technical reports and presentations that articulate research findings and recommendations.
• Prepare project technical specifications and contractual documents.
• Review and validate work produced by peers or team members.
• Provide mentorship to other civil/structural engineers and assist in the development of departmental standards.
• Occasional travel to other AECOM locations and client sites may be required.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
• 8 years of relevant experience in transmission, distribution, and substation projects, or a proven equivalent of experience and/or education.
• Professional engineering licensure is preferred.
• Preferred experience of 10+ years, including at least 5 years as a structural engineering lead/engineer of record on projects.
• Comprehensive knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g., NESC, G.O.95, ASCE 113, ASCE 10, ASCE 48, IEEE 605, IEEE 693, AISC 360, ASCE 7, IBC, ACI 318, RUS, ASCE design guidelines, NEC).
• Proven experience in participating in complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams.
• Experience working in 3D model environments.
• Progressive professional experience in the modeling, analysis, and design of steel structures and foundations.
• Experience must include structural design for overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems.
• Familiarity with various voltage levels (4kV, 12kV, 138kV, 230kV, 500kV, etc.).
• Proficiency in PLS-CADD software packages (PLS-Tower, PLS-Pole, etc.).
• Experience with structural analysis and design software (e.g., Staad.PRO, SAP2000, MFAD, L-Pile).
• Experience collaborating with remote teams.
• Experience on full EPC and Design/Build projects from inception to completion.
• Owner’s Engineering experience.
• Experience with retrofit or brownfield projects.
