This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Denmark.
• Oversee the people, architecture, and delivery aspects of OrderYOYO's payments platform, facilitating KYC onboarding, deductions, settlement/payout timing, dispute management, and merchant invoicing, while cultivating a high-performing engineering team and enhancing reliability, security, and engineering quality in one of our most critical business areas.
• Guide, mentor, and develop a team of payments engineers by offering hands-on technical support, consistent feedback, and clear career advancement paths.
• Take charge of recruitment and team-building for the payments engineering division, collaborating with hiring teams to define role specifications, conduct interviews, and attract top talent.
• Manage daily personnel activities: conducting 1:1 meetings, setting goals, performing performance evaluations, and discussing career advancement for direct reports.
• Foster a team culture where payments knowledge is documented and disseminated, rather than remaining tribal, through design reviews, established standards, and mentoring initiatives.
• Represent the payments engineering team in leadership and cross-departmental discussions, translating business requirements into technical strategies and team priorities.
• Balance technical contributions with management duties, remaining close enough to the codebase to lead by example and facilitate team progress.
• Define the technical direction and long-term architecture for payment-related services, encompassing gateway integrations, payment intent/authorization/capture/refund processes, payout orchestration, and reconciliation.
• Ensure the implementation of robust “flow-of-funds” primitives within the team's systems, including idempotency, ledgers/events, and comprehensive audit trails that comply with finance and regulatory standards.
• Lead the strategy for PSP and partner integrations, paying close attention to tri-party and sub-merchant implications when relevant.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Legal/Compliance, Finance, and Support teams to transform requirements into secure, testable production behavior.
• Enhance engineering quality in a dynamic environment by implementing automated testing, secure rollouts/canaries, observability, and incident-response improvements, while being accountable for team outcomes.
• Demonstrated experience in leading, mentoring, or managing a team of software engineers, including responsibilities for hiring, performance assessment, and career development.
• Strong backend engineering expertise in distributed systems, including microservices, asynchronous processing, resilient APIs, and eventual consistency.
• Practical experience with payment flows (authorization/capture/refund, webhooks, reconciliation) and “money correctness” methodologies such as idempotency keys, double-entry accounting, and auditability.
• A robust security mindset encompassing PCI compliance, PII protection, secrets management, least privilege access, and secure coding practices.
• Proficiency in an Azure-first environment (APIs, queues/eventing, monitoring), with a solid foundation in CI/CD and automated testing processes.
• Effective and confident communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in high-pressure situations, such as incidents, financial discrepancies, and compliance inquiries.
• Strong judgment on when to act swiftly, when to standardize processes, and when to delay decisions, supported by evidence, balancing team capacity, technical debt, and business priorities.
• Competitive salary
• Remote work opportunity — perform your best work from anywhere, with quarterly in-person gatherings at one of our global offices.
• High degree of ownership and autonomy, directly influencing the team you manage.
• A clear leadership role, with opportunities to expand into broader engineering management responsibilities.
• The chance to lead projects on revenue-critical production systems.
• A strong emphasis on security, reliability, and engineering best practices.
• A collaborative international engineering team.
• A genuine focus on learning, mentoring, and long-term growth, both for you and the individuals you lead.
