This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Oversee the personnel, architecture, and execution of OrderYOYO's payments platform — facilitating KYC onboarding, deductions, settlement/payout timing, dispute processes, and merchant invoicing — while developing a high-performing engineering team and enhancing reliability, security, and engineering quality in one of our most critical business areas.
• Guide, mentor, and expand a team of payments engineers — offering hands-on technical support, ongoing feedback, and clear pathways for career advancement.
• Take ownership of hiring and team development for the payments engineering role, collaborating with recruitment to establish role specifications, conduct interviews, and attract top talent.
• Foster a team culture where payments knowledge is documented and disseminated, rather than kept within a select few — through design reviews, standards, and mentoring.
• Represent the payments engineering team in leadership and cross-functional discussions, converting business requirements into technical strategies and team priorities.
• Establish the technical direction and long-term architectural strategy for payment-domain services, encompassing gateway integrations, payment intent/authorization/capture/refund processes, payout orchestration, and reconciliation.
• Enhance engineering quality in a rapidly changing environment: automated testing, safe rollouts/canaries, observability, and improvements in incident response, with accountability for results across the team.
• Demonstrated experience in leading, mentoring, or managing a team of software engineers — including hiring, performance evaluation, and career development.
• Strong backend engineering expertise in distributed systems — microservices, asynchronous processing, resilient APIs, and eventual consistency.
• Hands-on experience with payment processes (authorization/capture/refund, webhooks, reconciliation) and “money correctness” practices such as idempotency keys, double-entry thinking, and auditability.
• A robust security mindset: PCI compliance, PII protection, secrets management, least privilege, and secure coding methodologies.
• Ability to thrive in an Azure-first environment (APIs, queues/eventing, monitoring), with solid CI/CD and automated testing practices.
• Clear and confident communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders during critical situations — incidents, financial discrepancies, and compliance inquiries.
• Strong judgment on when to act quickly, when to standardize, and when to defer decisions — balancing team capacity, technical debt, and business priorities.
• Competitive salary
• A remote position — work from wherever you perform at your best, with quarterly in-person gatherings at one of our global offices.
• High level of ownership and autonomy, allowing you to significantly influence the team you lead.
• A defined leadership role, with opportunities to expand into broader engineering management responsibilities.
• The chance to lead initiatives on revenue-critical production systems.
• A strong emphasis on security, reliability, and engineering best practices.
• A collaborative, international engineering team.
• A genuine focus on learning, mentoring, and long-term professional growth — for yourself and those you lead.
