Lead Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.

📋 Description

• Execute end-to-end features within Django 5.x and the Django REST Framework based on detailed task briefs.

• Build both the backend analytical engine and HTMX frontend within a unified codebase.

• Ensure strict API consistency between the HTMX frontend and REST API, maintaining identical data structures.

• Utilize Claude Code in VS Code for executing scoped tasks and reviewing AI-generated code.

• Assess pull requests to identify decoupling and compliance issues.

• Assist junior engineers in structuring briefs, prompts, diffs, and session-management documentation.

• Guide engineers in adopting dependable AI-assisted development methodologies.

• Uphold architectural standards for backend decoupling and regulatory compliance.

• Keep PROJECT_SNAPSHOT.md, CLAUDE.md, OPEN_TICKETS.md, and LESSONS_BANKED.md up to date.

• Document lessons learned and track deferred work tickets.

• Collaborate asynchronously with the founding engineer and fellow contributors.

• Make and document architectural choices, providing constructive feedback when necessary.


⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience with Django 5.x and the Django REST Framework.

• Proficiency in building viewsets, crafting serializers, and analyzing query performance.

• Full-stack expertise in vanilla JavaScript, HTMX, and Django templates.

• Capability to enhance HTMX screens and implement JavaScript integration as needed.

• Familiarity with Celery, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Docker Compose.

• Background in or a willingness to quickly grasp pandas, NumPy, statsmodels, scikit-learn, and analytical coding.

• Practical experience utilizing Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar AI-assisted development tools.

• History of reviewing peers' work through technical leadership, senior engineering roles, or open-source maintenance.

• Excellent writing skills for task briefs, documentation, commit messages, and pull-request evaluations.

• Personality suited for working in a regulated environment.

• Bachelor's degree is preferred.

• 5–7 years of relevant experience in the current or a similar field.

• Strong computer proficiency.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work setting.

• Effective communication, active listening, problem-solving skills, and capability to handle challenging calls.

• Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Basic knowledge of processing, underwriting, or appraisals is advantageous.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with coworkers, vendors, suppliers, and customers.

• Capability to remain seated at a desk and use a computer for extended periods.

• Proficiency in using a phone with or without a headset.

• Ability to lift, push, pull, and reach for items weighing up to 10 lbs.
