Lead Relay Field Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.

📋 Description

• Calibrate, install, maintain, and repair protective relays and related equipment.

• Oversee the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of intricate control systems, protective relay systems, substation and electric utility protection systems, as well as SCADA systems.

• Analyze project-level scopes of work.

• Organize commissioning activities and resource scheduling.

• Provide leadership to ensure testing is conducted efficiently, punctually, without service interruptions, and in compliance with safety protocols.

• Interpret substation drawings, including single-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, panel wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.

• Develop procedures and test plans for maintenance and construction tasks.

• Create isolation plans and functional guidelines.

• Evaluate relay voltage and current inputs, metering, alarms, function switches, and local/SCADA trip functionalities.

• Troubleshoot and repair substation relaying and control devices.

• Commission new substations, power equipment, relaying, pilot channel equipment, controls, and communication devices.

• Offer technical support for projects to Field Service personnel.

• Mentor junior field service personnel.

• Act as a subject matter expert in protective relaying.

• Serve as the technical lead for small project teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing, and repairing substation relaying and control schemes.

• Desirable experience in substation design, construction, commissioning, and SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing.

• Proficient understanding of 3 phase power systems and power system protection and control schemes.

• Familiarity with test equipment and associated software.

• Competence in using test equipment and tools/wiring.

• Ability to interpret wiring and elementary diagrams.

• Basic testing skills to perform the outlined responsibilities.

• Fundamental PC skills.

• Capability to swiftly learn and apply testing procedures for various substation equipment types.

• Proficient communication skills with diverse groups.

• Willingness to learn and apply client switching procedures and safety measures.

• Ability to reference and complete tasks in accordance with relevant specifications.

• Capacity to perform regular fieldwork in both indoor and outdoor settings.

• Strong interpersonal, communication, business acumen, and management capabilities.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

• Possession of a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

• Effective communication skills in English, including reading and writing proficiency.
