Lead People Relations Consultant, Labor Relations

📋 Description

• Oversees the most intricate and sensitive labor relations issues from start to finish, encompassing collective bargaining agreement interpretation, grievance escalation, represented employee matters, labor-management relations, workplace conflicts, and situations that necessitate senior-level judgment.

• Directs labor relations strategy and implementation for designated bargaining relationships, including preparation for collective bargaining, meet-and-confer processes, contract management, negotiation assistance, issue analysis, and stakeholder alignment.

• Acts as the primary escalation point for the Labor Relations team, offering guidance, consultation, and quality oversight on complex issues, high-impact matters, and sensitive labor relations decisions.

• Leads, mentors, and develops Labor Relations team members by establishing clear expectations, reviewing work, enhancing judgment, supporting professional development, and ensuring consistency in labor relations practices and outcomes.

• Provides strategic advice to senior leaders and HR partners on collective bargaining agreement interpretation, grievance resolution, performance and conduct issues involving represented employees, dispute resolution, and labor-related workforce decisions.

• Collaborates with Legal on labor relations issues related to arbitration, administrative charges, mediation, pre-litigation challenges, and other complex matters that require a coordinated strategy, documentation, and readiness of witnesses. This position does not serve as legal counsel of record.

• Conducts internal and external trend analysis, identifies patterns and systemic issues, and recommends practical interventions that enhance leader capability, improve consistency, and foster a constructive employee experience.

• Serves as a senior subject matter expert in labor relations, employee relations, employment practices, HR policies and procedures, and employment law concepts, translating complex issues into clear and actionable guidance for leaders and partners.

• Develops and facilitates practical, scenario-based training and guidance materials for leaders to enhance labor relations capability, improve consistency in practice, and support long-term organizational effectiveness.


⛳️ Requirements

• 8-12+ years of progressive experience in employee and labor relations, including direct interaction with unions and leadership in complex cases.

• Bachelor's degree. Equivalent experience may be acceptable in lieu of a degree. Juris Doctor (JD) is preferred; however, this role does not represent the Company in legal matters and does not act as attorney of record.

• Proven experience in supporting negotiations, contract administration, and grievance/arbitration preparation.

• Experience in designing enterprise standards, playbooks, and programs to enhance leader capabilities.

• Expert knowledge in labor relations, including NLRA fundamentals, strategies for labor-management relationships, grievance processes, arbitration preparedness, and bargaining preparations.

• Strong leadership skills, including coaching, directing work, case review, performance feedback, capability enhancement, and development of high-performing team members.

• Comprehensive understanding of employment risk concepts (EEO, retaliation, wage and hour, leave frameworks) and the ability to translate these into operational decision-making.

• Executive-level consultation abilities, including effective communication, negotiation, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution.

• Advanced investigative skills, including planning, interviewing, credibility assessment, evidence analysis, and producing defensible documentation.

• Strong operational discipline: prioritization, case governance, standard work practices, and the ability to create repeatable systems and playbooks.

• Analytical mindset: the capacity to utilize data and insights to identify systemic issues, suggest interventions, and evaluate outcomes.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and collaboration tools (Teams); comfortable using HR case management systems.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, mediation abilities, consultation skills, and the capacity to handle challenging situations with tact and diplomacy.

• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines.

• Capacity to collaborate across various teams and interact with individuals at different organizational levels in often ambiguous situations.

• High discretion and confidentiality, mature judgment, and professional integrity.

• Experience working across time zones, constituent groups, and locations, utilizing technology to fulfill responsibilities is preferred.

• SHRM-CP or PHR certification is preferred.
