Lead Mobile Developer, Consumer Apps

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the architecture and development of a new iOS and Android consumer application from initial stages to launch and scaling.

• Serve as a key builder with extensive ownership over technology, product execution, and decision-making.

• Quickly prototype concepts, validate technical strategies, make practical trade-offs, and deliver experiences.

• Make essential choices regarding the use of React Native/Expo versus native Swift/Kotlin development.

• Create a refined, responsive, and user-friendly consumer experience with an emphasis on performance and usability.

• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to transform product concepts into mobile experiences.

• Influence product direction through customer insights and real-world application usage.

• Set mobile engineering standards, architectural patterns, workflows, testing strategies, observability, and release protocols.

• Implement interactions with the camera and photo library, image-heavy experiences, gestures, animations, sharing, notifications, deep linking, and lifecycle management.

• Oversee native platform API and module development as needed.

• Ensure application performance, reliability, startup time, memory usage, rendering efficiency, and device behavior.

• Integrate backend systems, computer vision, and AI functionalities into the consumer experience.

• Provide technical leadership through architecture and code reviews, prototyping, and hands-on development.

• Mentor engineers and assist in building the mobile engineering team.

• Define the long-term mobile engineering strategy and culture.

• Participate in recruitment efforts and outline team skills and capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of software development experience, with substantial experience in building and maintaining production mobile applications.

• Extensive experience in developing consumer-facing applications for iOS and/or Android platforms.

• Proven track record of guiding a mobile or consumer product from the earliest phases to successful launch.

• Experience in leading the architecture and delivery of significant mobile products or major application features.

• Strong expertise in React Native and the mobile ecosystem, and/or deep specialization in native iOS or Android development.

• Comprehensive understanding of mobile application performance, rendering, memory management, networking, application lifecycle, and device limitations.

• Familiarity with cameras, photo libraries, gestures, animations, push notifications, deep linking, and application distribution.

• Strong product instincts and outstanding attention to detail in interaction design, responsiveness, and user experience.

• Capacity to make technical and architectural choices in uncertain settings.

• Entrepreneurial mindset towards product development and a proactive approach.

• Strong emphasis on execution and delivering products to end users.

• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

• Leadership mentality and capability to drive projects to completion.
