This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and oversee evaluations of licensing basis systems and components for nuclear power uprate initiatives.
• Conduct consulting-level tasks related to power uprates within the nuclear sector.
• Prepare and assess calculations for heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, and plant hazards.
• Create task reports and equipment evaluations that present technical information in a clear and concise manner.
• Carry out equipment sizing, optimization evaluations, and selection processes.
• Collaborate with clients and project teams to communicate technical discussions and project updates.
• Develop engineering proposals and provide cost estimates.
• Mentor and guide junior engineering personnel on power plant engineering activities.
• Conduct independent reviews of calculations and the preparation of drawings.
• Participate in client meetings and site assessments to verify scope and ensure client satisfaction.
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from a program accredited by the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission.
• Strong academic foundation and enthusiasm for thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in the nuclear power sector.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Familiarity with balance of plant systems and component evaluations, pinch point assessments/task reports, heat balance, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, circulating water, and ultimate heat sinks.
• Exceptional technical report writing abilities.
• Knowledge of practical mechanical engineering and technology applications in project design.
• Strong interest in numerical computations and problem-solving.
• Working understanding of codes, standards, and regulations relevant to mechanical engineering design in nuclear power plants.
• Proficient in MS Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• U.S. work authorization is required; Sargent & Lundy does not provide sponsorship for work authorization in the U.S.
• A Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) from an ABET-accredited program and a Professional Engineer (PE) License are desirable but not mandatory.
• Willingness or capability to lead the integration of automation and AI tools into engineering workflows.
• Experience with Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel automation is advantageous but not essential.
