This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Lead the design and execution of essential platform services such as payment flows, transaction lifecycle management, reconciliation, and wallet infrastructure.
• Engage in architecture discussions to ensure that implementations are in line with the architectural vision.
• Establish and uphold engineering standards including code quality, testing strategies, observability, and delivery practices throughout the team.
• Mentor and develop the team through code reviews, collaborative coding sessions, and providing technical guidance.
• Convert architectural decisions into clear, actionable technical solutions for the team.
• Collaborate with Product and DevOps teams to facilitate the end-to-end delivery of intricate financial features.
• Contribute to the platform's advancement towards AI-assisted and data-driven functionalities.
• Enhance platform reliability, fault tolerance, and performance at scale.
• Over 8 years of substantial experience in production Java development.
• Demonstrated success in a tech lead or lead engineer position.
• Extensive expertise in the Spring Boot ecosystem and distributed systems at scale.
• Practical experience in developing financial systems including payments, wallets, banking, or fintech applications.
• Strong engineering leadership capabilities, including fostering a code review culture, mentoring, and defining standards.
• Proficient in REST API design with hands-on experience in messaging systems.
• Solid SQL proficiency; experience with PostgreSQL is preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a distributed, international team environment, often asynchronously.
• Familiarity with cloud environments, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools.
• Nice to Have: Experience within a licensed financial institution (such as EMI, payment institution, or bank).
• Knowledge of PCI DSS requirements and regulated payment environments.
• Exposure to Open Banking providers or scheme integrations (Visa / Mastercard).
• Practical experience with Camunda or other workflow orchestration engines.
• Interest or experience in applying AI / ML within financial systems.
• Background in event-sourcing or CQRS design patterns.
