This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.
• Take ownership of the mobile application from start to finish, encompassing architecture, performance, release processes, and the technical roadmap.
• Establish the technical direction and provide mentorship to the two engineers involved in mobile development.
• Enhance engineering standards while adopting a practical approach to project delivery.
• Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to support onboarding, growth, and retention initiatives.
• Provide a refined native iOS experience through seamless animations, responsive interactions, and adherence to platform-specific conventions.
• Launch features, analyze user journeys, conduct A/B tests, assess impact, and iterate rapidly.
• Oversee App Store releases, version management, store optimization, crash monitoring, and performance enhancements.
• Potentially assist in forming a dedicated mobile team as mobile capabilities expand.
• Engage directly with founders and impact product decisions.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in native iOS development.
• Prior experience in a Lead engineering role, demonstrating responsibility for technical direction and mentoring other engineers.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor engineers while remaining actively engaged in development tasks.
• Strong expertise in Swift, with practical experience in SwiftUI and UIKit.
• Demonstrated success in building and launching consumer-grade iOS applications.
• Familiarity with Combine, push notifications, and App Store deployment processes.
• Experience using Xcode, XCTest, TestFlight, and App Store Connect.
• In-depth knowledge of common iOS architecture and state management patterns.
• Experience in debugging applications, enhancing performance, and monitoring crashes.
• Ability to convert product objectives into technical decisions and assume ownership without waiting for fully fleshed-out requirements.
• Startup mindset: hands-on, self-sufficient, pragmatic, quick-moving, and comfortable with ambiguity and shifting responsibilities.
• Proactive communication skills and confidence in collaborating directly with founders and product stakeholders.
• Proficient in English at C1 level or higher, essential for daily communication, technical discussions, and team collaboration.
• Located in Europe.
• Experience in EdTech, especially products aimed at assisting students, learning, or study habits (preferred).
• Background in an early-stage startup or a rapidly expanding consumer platform (preferred).
• Experience with product-led growth, A/B testing, onboarding, and retention optimization (preferred).
• Experience in expanding an engineering team or aiding in technical recruitment (preferred).
• Familiarity with Objective-C (preferred).
• Android development experience using Kotlin (preferred).
• Knowledge of React Native, Expo, or other related technologies (preferred).
• Residing in Portugal, particularly in Lisbon (preferred).
