Lead Engineer – Payments

Posted Jun 23

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Establish and oversee the technical direction for our backend APIs, services, and checkout experiences. Guarantee high performance, scalability, and security while managing substantial volumes of concurrent transactions.

• Maintain a product-focused perspective on payments and monetary flows to ensure we are building sustainably for the future. Navigate incomplete requirements to drive execution to completion, ensuring the platform remains resilient as we expand.

• Enhance team productivity and promote technical development. Serve as a mentor for the engineering team, lead code assessments, and conduct performance evaluations to maintain high engineering standards.

• Stay actively involved in technical implementation, particularly in creating our own managed payments platform. Design, develop, and sustain services that focus on payment processing, billing, and seamless transaction flows.

• Act as a liaison between technical execution and business objectives. Facilitate cross-team collaboration with other engineering teams, product, finance, and customer support departments to address payment-related challenges, enhance user experience, and develop new features effectively.

• Supervise the integration of third-party payment providers and gateways (e.g., Stripe, Adyen, Braintree). Ensure compliance with data security and regulatory standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• A total of 10 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership or management role.

• Essential hands-on experience in payments, e-commerce, billing systems, or checkout processes. You possess an understanding of the intricacies of financial data and the management of sensitive payment information.

• A strong foundation in backend development and API design principles, along with experience in web/full-stack development. While we primarily use Go and TypeScript, we appreciate engineers who can swiftly adapt to our technology stack.

• Comprehensive understanding of databases (NoSQL or SQL), caching mechanisms, message queues, and cloud-native environments (AWS/GCP, Docker, Kubernetes).

• A "bar-raiser" mentality: proactive, self-motivated, and focused on accountability. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to navigate complex stakeholder environments. Capable of collaborating with a senior team and supporting their development.

• Experience with subscription billing platforms and a thorough understanding of financial ledger systems.
